This is FUTAB with my new Chuck Taylor's. The background is a painting I did about 2 years ago, the title is "Modern Day Jesus." I made Him look like a 1st century Jew and I made Him look at the dancer. I leave it up to the viewer of the art if He is looking at the dancer with blessings for she is His daughter or He is looking at her with disappointment. Anyways, Jesus did hang out with the "sinners" of His day, so in my design a modern day Jesus would hang out with our perceived "sinners" as well. Also, I didn't want to paint an Italian white blue eyed Jesus, because well Jesus was a 1st century Jew, He always was and always will be. No point in argument with that fact, He probably wore a head dress, because He was in the desert and need protection and all that jazz.. Anyways, I love the piece because it always intrigues people. And that's the whole point of art it forces some human reaction other than the mundane money-centered boredom of modern American capitalism.

Anyways, life is chillin' like this bird some days and some days our lives are too busy... busy doing what... to be honest most days nothing.

Light: Fresh Dusk Snow (week 5,29/365,shinsato)

The snow kept falling this afternoon into the evening. It was falling as I took this picture while dusk approached. The dimming of the light gives the picture a bluish hue. The snow is so beautiful, I tried many times to capture its beauty as it was falling, being blown by a wind or just gradually accumulating.

Light, Life, Love: Saint Mary's Peak (week 4,28/365,shinsato)

St. Mary's Peak is almost obscured by snow clouds. This peak is part of the Bitterroot mountain range that held the Lewis and Clark expedition back several months before they could get through them. The mountain was considered sacred by the Salish as a place for Vision Quests. It was at the base of this mountain in the small town of Stevensville in 1841 that a dying Salish girl had a vision of the Virgin Mary which is what gave the mountain its name as well as the Jesuit mission at the base of the mountain.

Life: Navajo-Churro Sheep (week 4,27/365,shinsato)

We have a few sheep on our land, these are three of twelve. The breed was actually reconstructed from a breed that the Navajo Indians used to hold, but the white settlers effectively destroyed the breed to make it harder for the Indians to make a go of it. The Navajo-Churro breed was assembled from remnants to reproduce the historical qualities. Their wool is coarse, very good for the carpets the Navajo weave.

Life & Love: Improv tools (week 4,26/365,shinsato)

That night I taught six boys and two moms an improv class. The boys are in a program called Destination Imagination, and they will be competing in a few weeks. It was a total blast bringing the improv skills I mostly learned in San Francisco to a ranch home way up a snow covered gravel road far from any city. The books include Impro, by Keith Johnstone. He has a theater up in Calgary, a not too far drive when the roads are clear. Improv Wisdom was written by Patricia Ryan, one of my first Improv teachers at Stanford. Acting on Impulse is by Carol Hazenfield, my favorite teacher at Bay Area Theater Sports in San Francisco. The other two books are BATS and Loose Moose Theater compilations. The stuffed animals are useful for toss games that help build awareness and teamwork.

They serve breakfast all day. It was really quaint. I enjoyed the breakfast for lunch. I had 2 eggs, hash browns, and toast. It hit the spot. Anyways, my co-worker could not finish his meal so the lady brought this container with a huge smiley faced cartoon figure. I had to capture this container. I have never seen such energy and creativity put into something as trivial as a "to go" box. Anyways, it is a good day when I see things like this to brighten my day.

Lately I haven't been able to go to Peet's in the mornings, because it's been cold in the mornings and I like staying in for a little bit longer in the mornings. Anyways, this is my 61st day doing Project365. It is really fun. Also the sun has finally been out in the Bay Area. However, it is still "hella" cold.

Life & Love: Ron Paul Fans (week 4,25/365,shinsato)

The Ron Paul Revolution has a strong following in Missoula, and they took over all four corners in the busiest intersection in the city for a couple hours this Sunday afternoon. This Republican/Libertarian candidate has raised an amazing amount of support from the grassroots and the internet with his support of the constitution, bringing the troops home, and reducing the size and scope of the federal government.

Life & Love: Scratch Patch (week 4,24/365,shinsato)

There is a store in Seattle where you can bring your kids and they walk around a small "field" of polished stones. They can collect the stones they like in small pouches that you can purchase. It was fun and the kids really liked it.

Life: The Office (week 4,22/365,shinsato)

The office I visited in Vancouver was amazingly decorated with multiple story skylights and a rock garden under a balcony. It didn't seem right to be running around taking photos but there was a quiet moment to take this one.

Light and Life: Vancouver Rockies (week 3,21/365,shinsato)

Morning in downtown Vancouver the commuters were still using their headlights. The British Columbia Rockies stand gloriously between the skyscrapers.

Light: Fountain flash (week 3,20/365,shinsato)

The fountain in front of the art museum next to the Fairmont hotel in downtown Vancouver is frozen in the flash from my camera.

Life: Commuting to the border (week 3,19/365,shinsato)

To get to Business Objects Vancouver from Seattle, I had to travel Interstate 5 to the border. It was amazingly easy getting across, but the Peace Arch border crossing is essentially a criss cross of dirt roads due to construction, beware.

Light & Love: Moon in trees (week 3,18/365,shinsato)

A simple picture of the moon in the bare winter trees around the stream that runs through our land. They're wild trees that are full of wildlife that we love a great deal.

So this is one of my first paintings from 3 years ago. The concept of this painting was to initially just start with a background and some how create an image from the background. So I made a face on the right hand side and I made a woman sitting with her face near her knees. I think I called it "Green Longing-ness" but I don't know what else to call it. Anyways, it is Tuesday and it is my sharing of art day. BTW, I am almost done with the James Brown piece. I am pretty excited about that one. My teacher said, I made a mature painting. I guess I was a little "green" three years ago. Literally and figuratively.

I haven't had a Hershey's bar in a long time at least 4 years. Anyways, I put in my change and the 1st candy bar got stuck, I was like dang it just my luck. So then I was determined to have a Hershey's bar. So I busted out a $1 bill and pressed for the same code for the Hershey's bar. And to my surprise it spit out my first candy bar, then a second candy bar, and surprisingly a third Hershey's bar. BTW, I only ate a half of one, but I will save the other two in my cube. Sometimes life is like that, you put in something you expect something, but don't get anything, And the times you try again and you get more than you expected.

Light: Artificial (3/365)

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Took a walk around historic Sausalito today, and came across this nice looking lamp casing with a "candle" on the inside. Life would be so much different without artificial lights - we'd go to sleep soon after sundown, and be up at the crack of dawn. It makes Jesus' statement, "I am the Light of the World" all so much more powerful - without him, we can't truly see.

Life: This is a salad with apples and croutons.(week 9,58/365,jreyes)
Originally uploaded by jmoisesreyes

This is a salad with apples, croutons, and salad dressing. My goal this year is to eat healthy, I am finally starting. The sickness lasted a good month which totally sucked! So yeah trying to eat more leafy veggies and fruits. I even cooked chicken today for meals which should last the whole week. I mean it is my version of chicken adobo. Just vinegar, soy sauce, salt, and pepper, which I put in the oven. This should also save some money. Eating out is expensive and the looming economic downturn makes me cook more rather than eat out. You know the economy is bad when engineers have to cook for themselves. ;-) Anyways, cooking for myself as a single engineer isn't that bad, just eating by yourself sort of sucks. I don't know there is just something always hauntingly lonely when you eat by yourself. People aren't meant to eat meals by themselves. I remember one day during my fall quarter freshman year in college and I ate lunch by myself before the class, I thought man this sucks. I didn't have my new freshman people I hung out with and talk nonsense with. And it was just really eerily sad to eat at a place where you didn't know anyone and was doubting your surroundings and your "belongingness" (making words up). Maybe it is a primal anthropological thing or perhaps like a sociology thing, but there is something very basic and true when you eat with others. You share stories, you are more likely to be yourself, and you practice common social things so that you don't look like that weirdo (although all people are weirdos anyways). Anyways, yeah cooking is fun, eating by yourself in your apartment during a cold and rainy winter is not a positive experience.
