Today was the second day of the storm in the Bay Area. I managed to capture the sun' light right before the second storm front hit. It is amazing how blue the sky was and then the big looming dark gray clouds hinting, waiting, and marinating for the cold rain and gusty winds. But I like the light, it reminds me of this passage Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden." Perhaps Mountain View is not a city on a hill, but still it cannot be hidden.

Life and Light: Small town memorial (week 1, 2/365, shinsato)

My small town of Stevensville places a great deal of pride in those who have sacrificed their lives to protect the country.

Today was a stormy day in the Bay Area. There were reported 120mph winds. I probably drove through 60mph winds. I had to get gas in this weather, and it was cold, windy, and raining. Man how do people outside California do it? How do you survive winters? Maybe we are just a bunch of pansies in California. You can see the 2 palm trees I photographed, which are now bending crazily. The drive to work was filled with debris from the trees. This photo looks like a black and white photo, but the sky was just "hella" gray.

Light, Life, and Love : Good-bye Cleopatra (Week 1, 1/365, shinsato)

Cleopatra stayed with me for 17 years. This photo the day before she died shows her when she was immobile, wrapped in a towel, as we were gifted with the process of her death. The death of a loved one, even a pet, is never convenient or fun. But it is profound. It sheds light on what is important and precious, such a tender and invisible thing as a life or spirit, even that of a small cat. Cleopatra was with me for 17 years, through two girlfriends, several moves, a cross country trip which included an accident where she had to hide in a post hole overnight, and many other life events. She would sit on my lap the last few years while I journaled in the morning, purring. I will miss her.

So the really ironic thing about this book is that the content is all black and white. It is all very technical and what not, but I just find it funny that a book about color does not have color in it.

Light: A child holding a candle at Sydney's Carols in the Domain (2/365)

Saw this kid walking back and forth with his candle, fascinated by the flickering flame. When we were in Sydney, that had this big production called "Carols in the Domain," where thousands of people gathered in the park to sing Christmas carols. Really interesting, especially in this day in age in the West, where everything's gotta be so politically correct, and there they were, singing songs like "Joy to the World" with non-modified lyrics proclaiming Jesus.

First off Happy New Year to everyone! So there is a total of 6 photographers contributing to the blog. They are Hanah, Jason, Kenneth, Pat, Marisol, and myself. Thank you all for doing this project with me. I hope we all have fun with the photos we take.

So today my sister, nephew, and myself went to Santana Row in San Jose, CA. We went as my sister lovingly puts it "pasiyal pasiyal." In Tagalog, it means when Filipinos just go to the mall or go somewhere which is not in your house. I guess the American version would be to "go sight seeing." So Santana Row is a weird spot. They made it look like "The Grove" in Los Angeles, but it is located in Silicon Valley. I don't know it is just weird to me. What is crazy to me is that there are hella old rich Chinese people who shop at these stores. I saw this one Chinese lady at Salvatore Ferragamo. I swear the lady was buying the same black Ferragamos she already had on. Hmmm perhaps this is a profound realization on my part, but old Chinese people shop where it is only "Made in Italy." Holy crap, even they don't buy "Made in China" gear! Gotta give props to that old Chinese lady... Anyways, this photo was taken at the Burberry or how I call it the "Blueberry" store. But yeah my sister was looking at bags while me and the nephew were just chilling.

You learn so much about yourself and what you see in the world. Maybe it is mundane, maybe it is beautiful, maybe it is laughter maybe it is food, maybe it is joy, but I don't know I guess the general view of it all makes me enjoy doing this project. So every month I will create a monthly summary collage. I think it does a great job of summarizing the month of photos.

I hope I can build on the momentum of this project and hopefully God will give me more opportunities to see the themes of light, life, and love in all His creation. Anyways, it was a chill day at work, so I went to a park which I drive by everyday on Foothill. This park is near downtown Los Altos. Anyways, I like the color of the piece. It is just vibrant and bright. Again have a safe and happy new year to all!

The clouds before sunset today were pretty cool. This was at around 4:45ish. There was a nice light shinning on the clouds. I am feeling like the backup pictures are either of clouds or whatever I ate during the day. But we shall see. I can't believe it is already day 30. Happy New Year and we shall see what light, life, and love God will expose for the upcoming 2008.
