You learn so much about yourself and what you see in the world. Maybe it is mundane, maybe it is beautiful, maybe it is laughter maybe it is food, maybe it is joy, but I don't know I guess the general view of it all makes me enjoy doing this project. So every month I will create a monthly summary collage. I think it does a great job of summarizing the month of photos.

I hope I can build on the momentum of this project and hopefully God will give me more opportunities to see the themes of light, life, and love in all His creation. Anyways, it was a chill day at work, so I went to a park which I drive by everyday on Foothill. This park is near downtown Los Altos. Anyways, I like the color of the piece. It is just vibrant and bright. Again have a safe and happy new year to all!

I am feeling like the backup pictures are either of clouds or whatever I ate during the day. But we shall see. I can't believe it is already day 30. Happy New Year and we shall see what light, life, and love God will expose for the upcoming 2008.

It was a gloomy rainy morning. I drove to San Francisco to get some art supplies at Flax on Market Street. I managed to take a picture of this trolley on the way to the store. Maybe I am getting older, but I can not see myself living in the city. It just seems very busy with lots of activity. Also I am going to try to follow the Project365 weekly ideas. So the last week's idea was transportation. Although I will still follow the guidelines of light, life, and love.

Love: Baby's feet (week 1, 7/365, msjoo2)

I can't take enough photos of my baby's hands and feet. There is something that tiny hands and feet express about this stage in their lives that nothing else does.

Light: Shadows (week 1, 6/365, msjoo2)

Life: Raindrops on leaflets (week 1, 5/365, msjoo2)

This was just outside my door last week when it rained in the morning. I never think much of the plants outside my doorway, but when I look closely I realize that they are beautiful and fresh...alive.

I tried to capture my art piece and I managed to capture a shadow of myself as well. I like the shadow picture. I didn't want my shadow to be on the canvas. Then I started taking shots of just the shadow. It is interesting trying to take a picture of just the shadow and at the same time don't show the camera. This one I looks like a typical tourist shot. I also like playing with the sepia and the exposure stuff. I have no idea what I am doing.

I wonder how old this tree has been living. I wonder if it knows there are crazy work oriented people drive by it every day to their monochromatic, meaningless, and mundane jobs. Hmmm I guess this 365 makes me appreciate trees like this one. Who am I kidding nobody really reads what I write.

So I went to the breakfast place next to it and I ordered corned beef hash browns. This really hit the spot. I liked this meal a lot. I decided to make the smiley face for my 3rd grade moment and then capture the smiley face before I ate it all.

This was taken up Skyline near the Thomas Fogarty Winery you can see the Peninsula, San Jose, and if you are lucky San Francisco on a clear day. The drive up is spectacular and I highly recommend it. Anyways, today was a good 365 photo essay day. Have a very Merry Christmas eve. I am sure Santa will be bringing the goodies for everyone. God Bless!

It's fascinating to me how much hidden light and color is often encoded in an image -- shades and hues that you might never see until you play around in Photoshop. (As you probably figured out by now, I'm not much of a photography purist.) Anyway, here's a Christmas tree that might as well be gilded in gold. Click on it to see the original. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Light: Reflection (Week 1, 4/365, msjoo2)

A reflection is the return of light upon striking a surface. This is my baby's reflection. When I look at her, I don't see much of myself, but I wonder if I will one day, if she'll reflect me in some way. Sometimes I see my own mom in me, and I wonder if she sees that reflection.

I like eating soups in the winter time, often because it is a time when I get sick. The flavors are simple but somehow I know God's hands are in the preparation of the food. This 365 thing is really challenging. I like it a lot. It makes me think, Ok so what does God want me to see next?

Life: This is a double 4th birthday party. (2/365, niftyken)

Here are the twins at their 4th birthday celebration with family and relatives. Almost a whole year ago, they were walking down the aisle as our ringbearers. Back then, they were barely talking and we were just hoping they'd make it all the way down the aisle without freaking out. (The stuffed Larry and Bob dolls at the end of the walk helped them focus on something to work toward!) Now they've really grown up, each becoming a little man with deep thoughts and dreams.

Light: This is our Christmas Tree. (1/365, niftyken)

This is our first Christmas tree together. It's simple and, well, pretty short, but still amazing how it can add some holiday cheer to our living room. I actually haven't had a Christmas tree at home in years, and it's nice to see how a little something can make us more thankful. And I'm way into the fiber optics. =]

Light, life, and love: The loves of my life (Week 1, 2/365, msjoo2)

What can I say? My family is life, light, and love to me. I'm so thankful for the joy and blessing brought into my life because of them. God is so good! This is a photo of Daddy having some "mirror time" with Baby. We have a mirror hanging in our living room, and she'll smile at herself in the mirror, especially in the morning.

Light, Life, and Love : The beautiful life that I wake up to every morning (Week 1, 1/365, msjoo2)

This is my baby in the morning light chomping down on her crazy monkey. She is what I wake up to every morning and the one person that shares nearly every minute of life with me. I don't know that anything can duplicate the kind of love that a mother has for her child, that I have for my little girl.

Standing in front of Monument Valley in Arizona was one of those moments where I thought, "Wow. Our God is great." I love how the subtle light illuminates these sculptures that God made. During our trip to the Southwest, I couldn't help but reckon with how small I am and how big God is, and how beautiful He is.

Introduction

This is a blog for "A photo essay: 365 days of light, life, and love". John 8:12 is a beautiful passage from the Gospel and is the inspiration behind this project.

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

The good book has these basic and important concepts in any of story in the Bible. The project is meant to be generic to capture these 3 concepts in a photograph. There is plenty of God given light, life, and life in our daily lives, we just sometimes need to take a photo to express, exhibit, and expose these concepts. We hope that you enjoy the pictures which we will take and also we welcome your comments, criticism, and community to make us better photographers. We are a part of Baylight Church Community (http://www.baylightchurch.org)

God Bless,
Jonathan and friends
