I was going through my CD case, yes I still have CDs and I ran into these old Charlie Parker CDs I bought about 4 years ago. I fell in love with his sound again. I have just been listening to his stuff all night. One of his best songs is "Romance without Finance" Here are the lyrics.

Romance without finance is a nuisance
Baby, you know I need me some gold
Romance without finance just don't make sense
Mama, mama, please give up that gold
You so great and you so fine
You ain't got no money you can't be mine
It ain't no joke to be stone broke
Baby, you know I'd lie when I say
Romance without finance is a nuisance
Please please baby give me some gold

Romance without finance is a nuisance
Oh baby, I must have me some gold
Romance without finance just don't make sense
Oh baby, mama, mama, give up that gold
You so great and you so fine
You ain't got no money you can't be mine
It ain't no joke to be stone broke
Baby, you know I'd lie when I say
Romance without finance is a nuisance

the music and the lights

I was able to shoot some photos at Sharkbite studios in Oakland last week. I was photographing the band Totimoshi, a trio signed to Volcom Records. Page Hamilton is producing their latest effort with Toshi Kasai engineering. Their new material is incredible...ridiculously heavy. While I was shooting them, I decided to take a look around and in the recording space hung these lantern like asian inspired lights. It was very interesting looking at these beautiful subtle lights while listening to sludge metal.

This was dinner. I had friends over. And here was the menu.

Appetizers
- Brie and Crackers
- Baked Dates filled with Cheese

Salad
- Spring mix with Fuji Apples

Main Dishes
- KFC (from a Superbowl party)
- Baked Chicken Adobo
- Fried Rice (from a Superbowl party)
- Lasagna (Stoffers on sale in Safeway)

Desert
- Brownies (Safeway brand)
- Papaya (from the Mission district in SF)

Damn that was pretty impressive considering I came home @ 6:25pm and guests were at my apartment @ 7:35pm. I don't cook dinners a lot anymore, but it reminds me why I had inspirations of becoming a chef before.

Light,Life,Love: Fraubildung (week 5,32/365,shinsato)

My wife painted this picture several years ago. I hope she'll do more some day. I have a different piece of hers in my office. Frau means woman or wife in German, and Bildung means picture.

Life: Up up and away (week 5,31/365,shinsato)

I've done most of my flight training in this Cesna 150 at Bitterroot Aviation which sits in a hanger at Stevensville Airport. I was waiting for my instructor to arrive. I've received my Private Pilot license last year, but it's really just a license to learn they say. I went up in the sky a short while after this photo with blinders called foggles which prevented me from seeing outside the cockpit. The foggles are used by instructors on their students as part of the training for an instrument rating, which is necessary to be allowed to fly through clouds and other situations where the FAA judges there is insufficient visibility from the airplane.

Light, Life, Love: Quilt Raffle (week 5,30/365,shinsato)

Many towns out west celebrate First Friday each month, including our small town of Stevensville where many Main Street stores stay open late. We went out that night and ate at Ye Olde Coffee Mill. This large quilt covered the wall behind our table. It was being sold as a raffle to support a charity. The woman selling the raffle tickets said it took a team of women six months to sew this quilt.

Today was Superbowl Sunday and I saw the game at my friends (Renegell and Renelito's) new house in Sunnyvale, CA. Go Giants! They beat the Patriots 17-14 on a last minute touchdown to Plaxico Burress. Anyways, this picture is classic Filipino National pride. We have the cross, an expression of the Christianization of our land and our people, the national flag which has the 3 stars symbolizing the 3 provinces, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. And of course, the barrel man. His private part has a spring and sticks out when you take the barrel out. Trust me if you have never seen it, it's freakin' hilarious! I love being Filipino!
