Since I was having such a crappy week, I decided to treat myself for a good Greek dinner. I had a delicious lentil soup, some eggplant salad, and some chicken kebob wrap. This was a good meal. It was warm and kind of healthy for a cold and crappy week.

My old heater broke, so I got this hardcore looking heater now. It looks all hardcore and clean. It's been in the 40s in the mornings in the Bay Area. That is incredibly cold for this area. Last year I didn't light the pilot light for my central heating. This year I asked my landlord to fix that issue cuz it is freakin' cold.

So I decided to cook today. I cooked some penne pasta and some meat sauce with some turkey hot dogs. When I was little my parents would cook spaghetti and meat sauce with hot dogs. I am Filipino so this is standard operating procedure when there wasn't a lot of ground beef. So we used hot dogs or vienna sausages. It sounds weird, but it is hella good. Also the Filipino Spaghetti is typical sweeter than the original Italian version. So this wasn't a sweet spaghetti.

These are my neighbors Hannah and Aaron. We went to see the Golden State Warriors vs. the Houston Rockets. It was a fun and entertaining experience. We had real nose bleeder seats at the top of the arena, but the view on the floor still rocked. Plus I used a 70-300m Canon lens. Yao Ming is still HUGE.

Using my new 430 ex II for the flash. It makes cheap Chinese food look hella good. I get half white rice, half chow mein, house chicken, and some eggplant. This always hits the spot. This lasts like 2 meals for me. It is a bit bad, because of the carbs, grease, and sodium but its tasty.

My parents and my aunt and uncle decided to visit Uncle Peter in San Francisco. He looks exactly like my grandfather. He came to the US via the US Navy. The Navy recruited Filipinos before WWII. He has been a San Franciscan since the 1930s. He is looking pretty strong for 96. We Filipinos live a very long time.

The ramen place in El Camino is now a Thai restaurant. We went to Palo Alto right across the street from Stanford Univ. and found a new ramen place which was Chinese owned. This place was good the noodles were good. Price was pretty good too. I have no idea what the restaurant is called but it is a hole in the wall kind of place. :-) Day 298 is complete.

I rented some strobes from K&S in Palo Alto, CA. I love this camera store! One of the best in the west coast. I went to the game on Friday, Nov. 21 2008. This was a good game. Derek Rose is going to be a beast in the NBA. He is quick, he can dribble, he can pass, he has decent range. All I am saying is he is going to be a good guard in the NBA for a long time as long as he doesn't get injured. He is as strong as Utah guard Deron Williams and that guy is pretty strong. Also it was Filipino Heritage game for the Warriors. It was hella sold out with Filipino people. My college friends were there to do cultural dances before the game. What I didn't get were the Tahitian dance group to celebrate Filipino Heritage game. Tahitian != being Filipino. I mean seriously its quite a stretch. What I really don't get is why so many Filipino women dance Tahitian. I don't get it at all.

This is the Sagrada Familia in Spain. My abstract interpretation of it on pen and ink. This thing really pushed my skills on pen and ink. I mean I had to be more abstract with this one because there is so many details on it. so I just gave it more silhouettes and playing with the shadows with not too much details.

This is a pen and ink drawing of a peace sign by Flickrite crustydolphin. I don't know why this photo intrigued me, but it did. I enjoyed drawing her fingers for the peace sign. I think she got explore for her photo. Anyways, it is Labor Day weekend here in US so we have day off on Monday. It is all good, but I don't know US workers get one day? Like Europe gets hella holidays. While we Americans typical just get 2 weeks of vacation and some Federal holidays. I think it is just wacky. I am wishing I work in Europe these days. Euro is just freakin' awesome compared to the dollar. But I am weary as well because Europeans inherently dislike each other when you study their history. Anyways, maybe I can work in Ireland or some place in Europe with lots of different cultures and what not.

Decided to eat at this Middle Eastern restaurant on El Camino Real. I always drive by it because it has a big falafel sign, so last night I finally decided to poke my head in there and try it out. I have to admit the service was really good. The gentleman offered black Iranian tea. I have to try other stuff on the menu. But this was just the first dish I tried that looked tasty. And it was tasty!!!! The restaurant actually had good GoogleWifi which is free in Mountain View, CA. So I was able to watch Obama's DNC speech while eating this meal. Enough is enough!!!!!! 271 is now complete!

So I asked Jennifer if I can draw her photo of the day today and she graciously said yes. This took about an hour or so, and it was fun to do. Thanks Jennifer! This was really good practice. I was doing a lot of pen and ink recently so it was good to use the tortillion again. I am loving drawing these days, I am feeling a little better after the whole birthday day, but whatevers Let Go and Let God I guess. But it was just another emotional pain that I really didn´t need nor care to experience, but whatevers people are disappointing these days, but what do we expect people are not God.

It is an oatmeal and raising cookie, but it has bananas in it. And it makes a ton of difference!!! Man this thing was tasty! I have never had a cookie with a banana in it, but this cookie had healthy chunks of banana which made it hella good.

So I got some free hardware from that 5th grade class and I was able to install XUbuntu on the machine. It had a 40GB HD, 512MB of RAM, 1.8GHZ PIV processor. Not that bad really. So I got to install the GUI version on top of the server. It is a Ubuntu Server 8.04 kernel and I put XUbuntu on top of it. I haven´t built a machine in a while. Anyways, I think I am going to go to Fry´s and buy some cheap RAM to add some power on this bad boy. There are 4 slots, so I am planning to put 4GB on this thing. Not bad eh? I made the machine come alive. The teacher said it was dead and frustratingly dead. There is no sound on this machine, but Firefox comes with it and there are some command to add Flash, once I get sound to work, then I am golden. Aaaaah I feel like a programmer again... Whenever I am feeling down or something, I turn to work as an outlet from the frustration... I actually get sh*t done when I am in a funky state... It´s my way of coping I think.

I overslept a bit after last night´s dinner. I had a small dinner kind of got buzzed with a gimlet, and some good Reisling. The food was better last night. I wanted to see Darknight so we saw Darknight at 10pm so I got home at 1:30ish. Woke up at 11:45am, missed church, but I was there ready to help out the group with helping prepare the 5th grade class we volunteer at as a church. Then after that played some soccer and went to bed.

It´s a little blurry. But I had dinner with 4 friends. I was expecting more, but whatever. People disappoint me a lot these days, I just take it as a grain of salt. It just emphasized to me that you only have really 5 good friends who will know you on the face of this earth. It was partly my fault, because I sent the invitations a bit late, but whatevers I was totally disappointed no one wanted to celebrate with me, in the past I have gone to other people´s 30th birthday and people threw big parties and what not, I don´t know, just a little jaded now. I hate being in a disappointed state, it is worst than being angry, upset, or sad. It is more like deflating, defeated, and demoralizing. I hate throwing a birthday party for myself. I just think it is totally lame. It´s all good tho, I am happy and thankful for the friends who did show up for my little dinner. I was feeling really meh (insouciant) about my birthday this year. I think it is the fact that I am turning 30. I don´t know, just feeling down and out about it... But I had chocolate cake and ice cream. I should have gone to Manresa in Los Gatos, CA. Instead we went to California Cafe in Los Gatos. The food was not extremely good today. I picked Halibut with risotto, it was disgusting. I don´t know I was thoroughly had a let down feeling with slow service and even worse bad food. Crappy Friday night.

Dr. Horrible is great. I liked drawing Captain Hammer on this scene he looks evil. Because he's the bad guy. I mean he is a "corporate tool." And his name is also Captain "Hammer" Which is a tool. Anyways, it is like Spongebob Squarepants. You know he is sea sponge, but looks like a kitchen sponge. I love it when things are ambiguously clever.

Kind of a random night, I went to the game with 3 women friends. It was a lot of fun. I had the best seats of my life at AT&T park in San Francisco, CA. They were 4 rows behind the right field line. Totally amazing, plus it is right by the visitor's bullpen so we heckled the pitchers all night long! One pitcher's name was Gregg... So one fan blurted "Hey Greg-g-g-g-g-g you suck-k-k--k-k!" A lovely day of photography in San Francisco's Chinatown and Ferry Building Farmer's market. I took a photo of this Chinese woman doing some strong Tai Chi. She was pretty freakin' intense! Anyways, I was with friends Lee, Hanah, and Jason. We are planning to do this every month or every other month depending on all our schedules. It was a great day. Woke up pretty early around 5:15, but kept on hitting snooze. But it was all good. We got to Chinatown before the shops opened. It was a really good day. I enjoyed it a lot. Lee rented a fat 70-200mm F2.8 Canon L lens. I borrowed it and shot this lovely photo. That thing is ridiculously heavy, but is such an awesome lens!!!!!

I feel on fire for these drawings. I mean seriously these things are hella fun to draw. They take me about a half a day to complete from making a decision to draw something I want to make. I don't know why I am really digging the cross hatching technique. Here's another .trista photo. This is originally the one I wanted to paint. But oh wells cross hatching it is. Anyways, today is 8/8/8. Some one should do a project from 8/8/8 to 9/9/9. That would be cool/cool/cool. So here is .trista (Trista) from New York. I asked her if I could draw her to sharpen my painting/art skills for the summer. She was fun to draw. I think the lips were my favorite part to draw, because it is really soft and delicate and trying to do soft and delicate on pen and ink is hard. This is good practice on the cross hatching technique.

This was taken outside my art class right after there were some scattered flash showers in Mountain View, CA. This was awesome to see. These were the days where I am thankful that I have this 365 project to capture the crazy random happenstance. I really enjoy drawing this summer I can't believe 6 weeks have gone by so fast. Thursday will be the last class. It has been a blast. I am not sure if I want to continue with art, but it sure has been fun. I am contemplating a Masters in Fine Arts, but what am I going to do with a BS in Math and an MFA? Who knows? God might know the plan already, but he milks it to make us want it more.

I fixed up this drawing I did about 3-4 months ago. It was too light when I did it the first time. Now I added the lights and shadows. I asked this woman politely if I could take her picture she said yeah sure and posed with a cigarette in hand and an insouciant look and expression. My drawing course at Foothill college has been awesome. I finished this drawing today. I really enjoyed working with the 2H, HB, B graphite with the tortilion and soft kneeded eraser. I had this "Record book" since senior year of high school. That's about 12 years ago. Dayam I am gettin' old. This was from a religion course taught by an old priest named Father Jerome Cummings. It was the best and perhaps most memorable course in high school. One of his assignments was to create a list of 150 goals for your life. I have looked at it through the years and I now have about 300 goals from 18-29. The real interesting part about the list is that I only did about 20-25% of 300. I think its an average rate. You just have to accept the fact that you can't achieve all your goals, but its great to write the goals down.

This was the bento box special. I ordered a side of ebi crunch roll as well. This is dinner from a Japanese restaurant on the corner of Castro and El Camino right next to the Peet's coffee. I have no idea what it is called. But they have surprisingly good sushi. I really like coming here for dinner because the old waitresses are so nice and you can tell it is a Japanese owned family business. It is not one of those Japanese restaurants owned by Koreans. It is actually a common thing in the Bay Area. Most Japanese restaurants are owned by Korean Americans. Weird right?

So for the drawing course we had to draw buildings. I decided to draw buildings with a sign that says "Keep Out Gitmo" for Guantanamo Bay. Perspective drawing is really pretty fun. I also used Picnik to make edits. Anyways, I put some barb wire in there to make it look more restricted. I guess those are suppose to be guard towers, so maybe I will put in some sand bags and what not....

I cooked sinigang today. It is a common Filipino dish. It is sour, because of the tamarind.

Ingredients:
Mustard greens
1 white onion
3 chilis
some frozen salmon from Trader Joes

Open package of sinigang mix. Let it dissolve in 10 cups of water. Boil the water and sinigang mix. Now add salmon, onion, and chillis. After you cook the fish add the mustard greens for the last 10 min. Serve with white rice.

I had a wonderful dinner with an old elementary school friend from Los Angeles. I took him to Viognier in San Mateo, CA. He really loves this place, because my family took my friends who flew up from LA to this restaurant for my graduation 8 freakin' years ago. Anyways, this food was da bomb. This restaurant is like a special occasion restaurant. I hadn't seen my friend in a couple of years, so it was good to catch up, connect, and share a meal with a friend. I think life is all about good food, good conversations, and good company.

We learned how to do perspectives yesterday at the drawing course after the critiques. These are telephone poles going off in to the horizon. It is funny how our eyes adjust to see things. These were some pretty good cupcakes with strawberries on top. Also this we talked about Joshua in the study. How the Israelites used 12 rocks from the Jordan river to remind them of God leading them from a lost state to a found state. Anyways, I have been talking about goals lately and I mentioned to the group that I had over 300 goals since I was 18. It started as an assignment in my religion course in my senior year in high school. They were pretty astonished. I am too I guess, but its a reminder of what things I dreamed of when I was 18 and what I am still dreaming of when I turn 30. So I encouraged people in the group to generate 150 goals in their lives. The thing I learned from the 300 goals is that not every goal will be attained. Like my accomplished rate is like 8-10%. That's pretty low, but I would have to say very realistic. The whole point of the exercise is to write some of the wild ideas down somewhere as a remembrance of dreams, expectations, and events you want to happen. The really important lesson is that not all goals will be achieved. It's very counter-intuitive. The assignment was very interesting because the first 3 goals were

-Deny yourself
-Take up your own cross
-Follow Christ

These are pretty damn lofty goals. These are daily goals for life. Anyways the following describes some of my accomplished goals and some of my goals still on my TODO list.

I asked crustydolphin aka Charlie if I could paint one of her photos as a summer art project. The photo I am painting is called Princess Leia. Charlie is an awesome photographer from London, England. She is super talented, super nice, really purty, and more importantly she graciously accepted my offer to paint her photo. My brother-in-law, nephew, and I watched the San Jose Earthquakes vs. the Colorado Rapids today. The game was played at my alma mater in Buck Saw Stadium in Santa Clara University. It is a bit weird, because I worked in the athletic department during my school days. My work-study job was to sell tickets during soccer, baseball, volleyball, and basketball games at Santa Clara University. So it reminded me totally of Men's and Women's soccer games at SCU. Those were pretty fun times. I used to get free hot dogs and drinks after half time from our bosses and we were able to see games for free. Pretty good college gig right?

This lovely little girl was staring at my camera, so I decided to take her picture. She has the don't you know I am fabulous look. It was an entertaining game. I was able to take a photo of the Earthquakes' goal off a header. It was too bad, because Colorado scored like 8 minutes later off a nice header. But the Earthquakes coach got hella mad because he thought the player was offsides. So the referee kicked the coach out of the game for arguing. It got a bit chippy after that point. But it is good to see soccer thriving in the Bay Area. Lots of families, lots of fans, lots of food, lots of beer.

So I have to thank Kathy, the owner of Koji Sake Lounge in San Jose, CA for the opportunity to showcase my art work at her establishment. I am very thankful to her support of local artists. She picked the 5 to show and I think they all look great in the space. Also a lot of friends stopped by to support. Thank you all. It was a very fun night and I am very happy that people can get to appreciate and enjoy the artwork I have done the past 4 years. I think my next step is to see some of these art pieces at a gallery somewhere in SF, LA, and/or SD. If any of you flickrites know any gallery peoples please do let me know. I probably have to organize a portfolio or something.

I am taking a drawing course at Foothill College this summer. I am having a blast with this class. I am still going to take the painting class in the fall, but I figure I want to try drawing out. The lesson today was about negative and positive spaces. Sorry about it being blurry. The point and shoot focused on the cone in front not the sphere. Oh wells.

Damn it is hella hot again in NorCal. Don't try this at home I was at a parking log going 15 mph while I took this shot. But man it is really really hot today. Good thing I put on the AC in my car. I have no AC in my 3rd floor apartment. Damn it I really need to find a hot older woman AKA a "sugar momma." A brotha' just wants a little AC in his life. On some other notes, some of my friends are going to Kenya to spend 11 days with a Christian pastor helping out the refugees in the eastern boarder close to Somalia. Man, all my bitching and moaning the past couple of days is really trivial compared to other situations in the world. The unbearable heat, the "maybes" for some an art show. It's all trivial. But yeah God is good, God is great, God is love.

Crazy colorful flower, another one of these morning walk photos. So the art show is in a few days. I am a bit anxious, because a lot of work people will be there. But it should be all good. One pet peeve I really hate is when people say maybe to invites. I don't typically throw parties and what not. I am really not good at being the center of attention, but anyways, when I am at the center of attention people say maybe, just really pisses me off. Maybe it is because I am a type of person who says what I mean, and I mean what I say. I just don't know, saying maybe when you are in your 30s is a pretty childish thing to say to someone. I mean sh*t yes or no my feelings won't get hurt if you say you can't make it. I probably shouldn't take this personally. But I don't know it's my stuff. I just don't get it, people say oh "I love your work Jonathan", but then when I have a show, people say "maybe." But whatever, I am sure it will be fine and I will always have a good time with people who are with me at the moment, All the maybes just missed out.

Mmmmm. I had Indian food for lunch in downtown Palo Alto. I forgot to find out what the restaurant's name was but it was hella good. I went with 2 Indian coworkers. They said it was pretty authentic and it was very spicy and yummy :-) Indian food is really good in the Bay Area.

This is a 4th of July meal. My brother in law cooked all of this up in about 45min. He is a really good chef and feeds us well. Anyways, many of my tricks and cooking techniques I get from him and my sister. My parents are in town too and my nephew had a great day blowing bubbles and hanging out. Anyways, a great July 4th spent with the family.

Ok so I have been going to a workshop trying to play the banduria for a rondalla group from Kawayan. Kawayan is a non-profit organization being run, by former Filipino-American classmates in college. The banduria is a small 14 string instrument. It is pretty difficult to play because I have fat fingers. As you can see it relative to my mac book pro and my 19 inch flat panel monitor. Ok another meal photo. This Trader Joe's orange chicken, spinach, and white rice. I slightly modified the orange chicken by cooking up some apricots and cooking it in the orange sauce first and then adding it with the crispy baked chicken. It gave an interesting dynamic to the typical orange chicken. It is apricot season and they are pretty tasty. Day 213 is now complete.
